Hetzner can be a compelling infrastructure option when its network zone, processor architecture and self-management boundary fit the workload. The sensible comparison includes separate Internet Protocol (IP) addresses, backups, storage, traffic, tax and operator time, then tests recovery before migration.

A Hetzner Cloud server is infrastructure, not managed website hosting. Root access and an application image do not transfer responsibility for patching, monitoring, malware response, database repair or restore testing to the provider.
Good fit when
A named operator owns the server and application.
Your audience can be served acceptably from an available Hetzner location.
Your software supports the chosen processor architecture.
You can monitor health, patch promptly and test restores.
Your budget model includes every attached resource and labor.

Hetzner documents six Cloud locations across four network zones. Products and transfer rules can vary by zone, so “Hetzner price” is not one globally interchangeable number.

CX, CPX and CAX
Shared-vCPU plans suit workloads with low to medium or variable processor demand. The product page distinguishes cost-optimized and regular-performance shared lines. Noisy-neighbor exposure and sustained-load needs should be tested on the exact plan.
Dedicated
CCX
Dedicated vCPUs are positioned for predictable, sustained processor demand and production applications. They reduce one resource-contention concern, but do not turn the server into a managed service.
Architecture
x86 or Arm64
CAX uses Arm64. Confirm the operating-system image, application packages, native extensions, monitoring agent and backup restore path support it. Hetzner does not permit cross-architecture restores, ISO use or rescaling.
Disk downgrade constraint: resizing to a smaller disk is not supported. If you permanently expand the disk during an upscale, you cannot later return that server to a plan with a smaller disk. Preserve flexibility by understanding the resize options before accepting disk expansion.

Billing rules that change the total
Servers accrue hourly charges up to the listed monthly cap.
A partial hour is rounded up.
Stopping a server does not stop billing; delete it to end server charges.
Primary IPv4 and IPv6 resources are managed separately. The current billing Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) say Primary IPv4 is chargeable and Primary IPv6 is free.
Unassigned, still-retained billable IP resources can continue accruing charges.
Outgoing public traffic counts; traffic between network zones through public IPs counts as outgoing traffic.
Overage is billed in 100 MB blocks. Usage alerts are conveniences, not spending caps.

Recovery
Seven rotating server backups are useful, but they are not a complete recovery system
Automatic backups
The optional feature is billed at 20% of the server price and provides seven daily slots. Hetzner chooses the backup time; the oldest backup rotates out when the next is created.
What is excluded
Server backups cover the server disk. Attached Volumes are not included. Application consistency, external dependencies and a working recovery runbook remain your responsibility.
Snapshots
Snapshots are manual, persist until deleted and are billed by compressed storage. They can be useful before a risky change, but are not a substitute for automated, independent application backups.
Minimum evidence before production
Create an application-consistent backup outside the server and outside the attached Volume.
Provision a clean test server with the same processor architecture.
Restore the application, database, secrets and uploaded files without relying on undocumented memory.
Measure recovery time and data loss against the business requirement.
Test Domain Name System (DNS) rollback, monitoring and deletion procedures.
