Shared-server assignment cannot be chosen; official documentation says most servers are in Provo and Atlanta, so Asia-first sites need measured routing and CDN testing
Global provider dossier · checked 17 July 2026
HostGator hosting
Shared provider represented by the Hatchling public price model. Published facts, calculations, independent findings and editorial judgement remain visibly separate.
Decision boundary
Who should shortlist HostGator?
Small United States-focused sites wanting cPanel, phone support and a familiar shared-hosting workflow.
The promotional capture requires 36 months, renewal rises to the official USD 10.99/month three-year rate, and courtesy backups are not guaranteed
Product and operating model
What the account actually includes
Categories describe distinct products, not interchangeable tiers. Always follow documentation for the exact product generation.
Control surface
The Customer Portal manages account, billing, domains and website entry; cPanel manages files, databases, mail and AutoSSL. Gator Website Builder is a separate product and login.
Email boundary
Official limits list shared mailboxes and a 500-messages-per-hour ceiling. Hatchling is listed with 100 MB per mailbox while higher tiers use allocated web space; verify the live tier.
Infrastructure and region
Most servers are documented in Provo, Utah and Atlanta, Georgia, with some elsewhere. Shared customers cannot choose assignment. Cloudflare edge delivery does not relocate uncached origin processing.
Support boundary
24/7/365 chat and telephone support are published, including an international number. Complicated issues may require a ticket even though tickets are not exposed in the Customer Portal.
Commercial commitment
A February 2026 capture recorded Hatchling at US$3.75/month for 36 months (US$135 upfront). The official chart lists 36-month renewal at US$395.61, or US$10.99/month. Reproduce the live cart before publishing an affiliate call to action.
Ownership warning
A bundle can contain several products with different renewal, refund and cancellation rules.
Plan ladder
Representative tiers, not one convenient plan
Prices are dated research observations. “Verify” marks a field the public evidence did not settle; it is not treated as zero cost.
Resource and recovery boundary
Published allowances that can change the fit
Website count and storage alone do not establish dynamic capacity.
Limits to verify
- Hatchling 10 sites and 10 GB SSD; Baby 20 sites and 20 GB; Business 50 sites and 50 GB in the current account-limits summary
- Shared CPU use is capped at 25% for longer than 90 seconds before restrictions may apply
- Shared/reseller mail is limited to 500 messages per hour; lists over 5,000 addresses require VPS or dedicated hosting
- Courtesy backup eligibility is subject to published storage and inode thresholds
Recovery model
- Automatic backups are described as a courtesy, not a guarantee
- The backup-policy page says weekly automatic runs can overwrite the prior courtesy copy
- Shared accounts below thresholds may enter daily, weekly and monthly server cycles; confirm the exact account because the documentation is not fully consistent
- An assisted courtesy-backup copy or restore is listed at US$49; keep an independent files-and-database copy
Exit and cancellation
- The 30-day guarantee excludes monthly terms, domains, setup/administrative charges, add-ons and renewals
- Eligible refunds return to the original payment method; free-domain value may be deducted
- Domain renewals are billed 30 days early under the terms and become non-refundable once renewed
- Export website, database, mailboxes and DNS before cancelling

Shortlist only when the boundary fits
- Small United States-focused sites that want cPanel
- Buyers who value chat and telephone support
- Users able to test during the eligible refund window
- Asia-first dynamic applications needing a selectable nearby origin
- Businesses relying on one courtesy backup
- High-volume email, HIPAA workloads or sites approaching shared CPU limits
Evidence dossier
Official claims and independent observations
Independent results apply only to the disclosed plan, region, workload and test period.
HostGator remains a familiar cPanel shared-hosting option with published phone and chat access. Its decision risks are the long promotional commitment, steep renewal, non-selectable United States origin and courtesy-only recovery model.
- ✓ cPanel workflow and broad product range
- ✓ 24/7 chat and telephone support published
- ✓ Official renewal and resource-limit documentation is unusually specific
- ! Shared data-centre assignment cannot be chosen
- ! Courtesy backups are not guaranteed and assisted restore is priced
- ! Independent tests disagree materially on performance, so no universal speed score is justified
- 01Reproduce the affiliate cart and total cash due
- 02Capture the exact renewal term and amount
- 03Verify plan generation, site/storage limits and mailbox quota
- 04Create and restore an independent backup before migration

What this dossier does not claim
Is this a live checkout quote?
No. It is a dated observation. Reproduce the exact country, tier, term, add-ons, tax and recurrence before paying.
Did Web Host Lens run the cited independent tests?
No. Secondary findings remain attributed to their publishers and are never presented as our experiment.
Does a guarantee prove reliability?
No. It defines an eligible contractual remedy with exclusions. Observed reliability requires a disclosed test configuration and period.
