Vietnam buyer guide

Vietnam hosting versus international hosting, decide with evidence

A Vietnam data centre can improve local routing and operational fit, while an international platform can offer more regions and engineering tools. Neither label proves a better result, run the same application through a controlled test.

Research checked 23 July 2026, use current carts, invoices and agreements for a purchase decision.

The short answer

Start local when most users and operations are in Vietnam and local language support or billing materially helps. Start with a nearby international region when the audience is distributed or the team needs global tooling. In both cases, measure from the places where real users live.

Run a controlled seven day test

  1. Clone the same production like application to one domestic plan and one nearby international region.
  2. Use equivalent application versions, caching, database, image optimization and Content Delivery Network settings.
  3. Test from Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and every important overseas market.
  4. Measure Time to First Byte, Largest Contentful Paint, Interaction to Next Paint, errors and checkout completion.
  5. Test logged in and uncached requests, not only the cached homepage.
  6. Send the same technical and billing questions to both support teams.
  7. Trigger backup and restore, then calculate three year ownership cost.

Google’s Web Vitals guidance recommends a Largest Contentful Paint of 2.5 seconds or less at the 75th percentile. Use field data when available, lab tests are controlled evidence but do not fully reproduce user devices and networks.

Latency is only one part of performance

Origin

Server processing, database work and uncached response time affect Time to First Byte.

Delivery

Routing, Content Delivery Network cache, connection setup and asset size affect transfer.

Browser

JavaScript, fonts, images and layout determine when useful content becomes visible and interactive.

Your .vn domain and hosting are separate decisions

The Vietnam Internet Network Information Center manages the .vn country code top level domain and accredits domestic and overseas registrars. A .vn domain does not require you to buy hosting from the same company. Keep registrant ownership, multi factor authentication, Domain Name System access and renewal contacts under organizational control.

Compliance caution: hosting location alone does not determine whether a service satisfies Vietnamese data, cybersecurity, sector or contractual obligations. Obtain qualified legal advice for regulated or sensitive workloads.

Design for failure and exit

Minimum controls

  • Independent off provider backup
  • Current Domain Name System export
  • Documented credentials and owners
  • Tested restore and rollback
  • External uptime and transaction monitoring

Before cancellation

  • Export files, databases and mail
  • Lower Domain Name System time to live
  • Confirm new mail delivery
  • Keep both services during validation
  • Request retained data deletion

Practical recommendations by use case

Vietnam small business site

Start with a documented domestic shared hosting plan, test support and retain an independent backup.

Regional ecommerce

Compare domestic hosting against a nearby global region with a Content Delivery Network, focus on checkout, database and incident recovery.

Developer led application

Prioritize deployment workflow, observability, scaling and managed services, then validate Vietnam user performance.

Compare domestic candidates

Vietnix, P.A Vietnam and AZDIGI each expose different useful evidence. Use the Vietnam hub for the full checklist and the three year cost worksheet before deciding.

Use a weighted decision, not a country label

Assign weights before viewing provider scores. A Vietnam focused publisher may give greater weight to local visitor latency, Vietnamese support and domestic invoicing. A software company serving several countries may give more weight to regions, deployment tooling, observability and scaling. Changing weights after seeing the result disguises preference as analysis.

Four practical architecture choices

Domestic origin

Vietnam hosting with independent backup

Suitable for a primarily domestic conventional website when the measured performance, support and complete cost are strong. Keep an off account backup and registrar control.

Nearby regional origin

Singapore or another Asian region

Useful when regional reach or international tooling matters. Test origin latency and database operations rather than relying only on a cached home page.

Domestic plus Content Delivery Network

Local origin with global edge delivery

Can improve static delivery outside Vietnam. It does not automatically accelerate uncached administration, database writes, checkout or application programming interfaces.

Split services

Separate application, email, Domain Name System and backup

Reduces dependence on one vendor and can improve service quality, but increases operational complexity. Document ownership, monitoring and incident responsibilities.

A fair side by side test

  1. Clone the same production like site to both candidates.
  2. Use the same caching rules, software versions and image optimization.
  3. Measure median and slow page results from Vietnam and priority overseas locations.
  4. Test administrator actions, search, forms, checkout and background jobs.
  5. Run at the expected peak concurrency and inspect throttling.
  6. Restore a backup and time the recovery.
  7. Open comparable support cases and record technical depth.
  8. Calculate the complete three year cost and exit effort.

Red flags that should stop the purchase

Recommendation by operating model

Local small business

Start with a reputable Vietnamese provider, then require the same evidence and tests as an international provider.

Regional content or commerce

Test Vietnam and a nearby international region. Choose the measured application result and complete operating model.

Engineering led product

Prioritize deployment, observability, access control, scaling and recovery. Shared hosting location alone is unlikely to decide the architecture.

Final rule: locality is one criterion. Choose the architecture that satisfies performance, recovery, support, cost and exit control together.

How this page was researched

Evidence standard

Plan claims and prices are tied to named provider or authoritative sources. Starting prices are not treated as normalized totals, and unclear limits remain buyer verification questions.

Decision standard

Recommendations consider renewal, tax, resources, backups, migration, support, workload fit and exit control, not headline price alone. Facts were last checked on 23 July 2026.
